pH and chlorine: the right values for your pool

What these values mean, why they matter, and how often to measure them.

pH and disinfection are the two numbers that most affect the quality and safety of the water. You do not need to be a chemist — just understand the ranges and measure regularly.

pH: 7.2 to 7.6

pH shows whether the water is more acidic or more alkaline. Too low, it can corrode equipment and irritate skin; too high, the disinfectant loses effectiveness and deposits form.

The recommended range is 7.2–7.6. Small regular adjustments beat large corrections.

Steady disinfection

Disinfectant keeps the water free of bacteria and algae. What matters is that it is always present at an adequate level, rather than swinging between none and too much.

Salt chlorination systems help keep that level steadier throughout the day.

How often to measure

In summer, check the water several times a week; off-season, less often. Use strips or a meter and record the values.

In our plans, we record the readings on each visit and adjust the water — so you do not have to think about it.
